Sick, Sick, Sick

Sick 1
I have a cold. Not a regular, I'm stuffed in the head cold, by my shoulders, head and feet are achy cold. And when I cough, it sounds raspy, like I'm coughing up a lung, but there is nothing to rattle, so it just rips the inside of my throat like a motorcycle starter. No matter how much water and tea I drink, the cough and cold remain, and I just have to pee all the time.

Sick 2
I keep seeing broken and smashed pumpkins on the street, and it upsets me and makes me angry and pisses me off that some dumb shit, in the name of fun, would take the pumpkin carved by a child with a parent or loved one and just blithely break it into bits on the street. These people should be stopped.

Sick 3
Today, Meg Tilly, famous screen actress and accomplished writer, came to BUF to speak about her new book. Now let me just say, that Meg is in NO WAY sick, as a matter of fact, she is a very very healthy woman. But her villain, is one sick bastard. Reading the book was overwhelming at times, but the resilience of Gemma (the title character) was heartening and hopeful. I suggest you read this book, with the warning that the language is very rough and graphic...Big sister wants to read it...I said yes...I was very lucky growing up that my exposure to physical or emotional abuse was limited, and my awareness of sexual abuse, was non-existent. Meg was gracious and lovely, and I was honored to welcome her to B'ham. I have evidence that I really met her too....
Here is the link to the YouTube site where she was interviewed on the View by Rosie (who did an amazing job of comforting and caring for Meg as she got emotional when she told her story..) She was so real when she spoke on Sunday, what an amazing woman!!

Either everyone is laughing behind my back, or people are just plain stupid

I just got home after a very long day, I got to work at 8:45, went to the post office, the bank, visited a friend at her store, went and spent some time with a client, hung out at the high school as I am costuming "west side story" at BHS, it's now 6:28 and after a long long day, I arrive home and my first husband tells me that my sweater is inside out...tag in the back...OH MY G-D I can't believe no one told me! Not my computer guy, my client (although she is blind) my friends, the students, my daughter....

Now you have to realized that I am the kind of person who fixes tags hanging out of shirts of strangers, tells friends and acquaintances if there is a booger hanging and wipes my teeth to impart the silent message of "you had salad today, didn't you?"

WTF???

I am consoling myself with the thought that everyone I saw, adult and adolescent, thought I was making a fashion statement, something other than "I was half asleep when I got dressed."

Oy.

Pretty simple instructions. Go here and look through random quotes until you find five that you think reflect who you are or what you believe. Just keep hitting the “New Random Quotations” button until you get five that you like.
Here are my five:

Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)

This is our purpose: to make as meaningful as possible this life that has been bestowed upon us; to live in such a way that we may be proud of ourselves; to act in such a way that some part of us lives on.
Oswald Spengler (1880 - 1936)

Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.
Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)

You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you. Dale Carnegie

I have a problem about being nearly sixty: I keep waking up in the morning and thinking I'm thirty-one.
Elizabeth Janeway, Between Myth and Morning, 1974
